A crime map just came out. It shows the most dangerous place in Wales. Police recorded over five million crimes in England and Wales up to September 2024. Fraud was not counted.

Wales has four police forces. They recorded 261,000 crimes. Areas are split into community safety groups, matching local council areas. The crime rates are now public, allowing fairer comparisons of areas.

Newport shows the highest crime rate with 121 crimes per 1,000 people, about one crime per eight people. Blaenau Gwent is second highest with 118 crimes per 1,000 people. Cardiff follows with 106. Anglesey is the safest area, reporting 55 crimes per 1,000 people.

Here’s a list of crime rates in Wales: Newport leads with 121.1, followed by Blaenau Gwent with 117.9, and Cardiff reports 105.5. Torfaen shows 101.5, Denbighshire equals 98.1, and Wrexham lists 90.4. Caerphilly comes to 85.5, Conwy is at 88.4, and Swansea tallies 81.3. Cwm Taf has 78.3, Pembrokeshire recorded 72.9, and Bridgend shows 70.7. Gwynedd reaches 69.5.

The Vale of Glamorgan totals 67.7, Neath Port Talbot shows 66.7, and Monmouthshire equals 66.2. Carmarthenshire comes to 65.8, Flintshire reports 65.0, and Ceredigion lists 61.7. Powys has 54.8, and Anglesey is last at 54.6.

London’s Met Police, handling law in the capital city, had the biggest caseload, reporting 944,000 crimes. West Midlands Police followed, reporting 321,000 incidents. West Yorkshire listed 278,000 crimes.

Westminster in London has the highest rate with 434 crimes per 1,000 people, which is one crime for every two people. Camden is second highest in London with 189 crimes per 1,000 people.

Outside London, Middlesbrough is highest with 166 crimes per 1,000 people, equaling one crime per six residents. Manchester has 158 crimes per 1,000 people. Blackpool shows 155, and Hartlepool lists 141.
