Belfast: Hundreds of people attended the funeral of John George, a man murdered in Spain. His family and friends came together to remember him and support each other.

John’s coffin was carried from his home in Lagmore early Saturday morning. It was taken to St Luke’s Church in Twinbrook for the service. Mourners walked behind the cortege along Lagmore Avenue, with music playing from a loudspeaker.

During the service, Fr. Brian McCann told everyone that their presence was a great comfort to John’s family. He thanked the community for their support since John went missing.

John, 37, also known as John Hardy, was on holiday in Alicante when he disappeared in December. His family last heard from him on December 14. They reported him missing four days later when he didn’t board his flight home.

His parents, siblings, and friends traveled to Spain to help search for him. They wanted to bring him home for a proper burial. Sadly, John’s body was found on January 7, and it was revealed he had been stabbed and shot.

His body was returned to Northern Ireland last month. Many volunteers, including a K9 search team, attended the funeral to honor his memory. A notice for John highlighted how much he will be missed by his sons, family, and friends.

After the service, John was laid to rest at Blaris Cemetery in Lisburn.
