Huntly: A 32-year-old woman has been charged after a tragic crash. This incident happened about ten months ago. It took the life of Corporal David Thorne, an RAF technician.

The crash occurred on the A96 at the junction with A920 Deveron Road. It was around 11:30 AM on March 5, 2024. David, 43, was riding his motorbike when a BMW struck him. Sadly, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver, then 31, was unharmed but has been charged with road traffic offences. A report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal soon. David was a father of three and originally from Cwmbran, Wales.

He served in the RAF for 26 years and was stationed at Lossiemouth in Moray. Just before his death, he was selected for promotion at 1 (Fighter) Squadron. David had a rich service history, including deployments to the Falklands and Afghanistan.

Colleagues described him as selfless. He often worked extra hours to help trainees and maintain equipment. He also passed on his knowledge to the next generation of technicians.

The RAF Lossiemouth station commander expressed deep sorrow over David’s passing. He highlighted David’s dedication to his colleagues and his commitment to improving their work lives. David’s family remains in their thoughts during this tough time.
