Northern Ireland’s Minister emphasizes cross-border cooperation to improve health services and reduce waiting times for patients.
During a recent meeting with the Northern Ireland Affairs Select Committee, she discussed funding and service delivery. Lagan Valley MP Sorcha Eastwood brought up the idea of cross-border cooperation.
Anderson stressed that the focus should be on improving outcomes for patients. She said, “We need to explore every option to help those on long waiting lists.”
She mentioned the importance of all-Ireland health strategies. Recently, she attended the British and Irish Intergovernmental Conference in Dublin. There, she and the Secretary of State discussed transforming public services.
Anderson also shared her thoughts after visiting Fermanagh. She pointed out that healthcare solutions should consider the geography of Northern Ireland.
She said, “We need to think about where services should be located. Patients shouldn’t have to travel far for care.”
The Minister highlighted the need for an all-Ireland cancer strategy, which has been a major concern for many. She believes that all possible solutions should be considered to improve health outcomes for everyone.
