Sister Clare Crockett’s family beams with pride as she moves closer to sainthood in a special ceremony in Spain
Clare, who was just 33, tragically died in an earthquake in Ecuador back in April 2016. The building she was in collapsed while she was teaching music.
She was a vibrant person, originally from Brandywell in Derry. Before becoming a nun, she even had a shot at acting. Can you believe she turned down a gig on Nickelodeon?
Her friends were shocked when she announced her decision to join the convent. She did it while holding a beer and a cigarette!
Clare took her Holy Orders with the Servant Sisters of the Home of the Mother. Her motto was “all or nothing,” and she’s been linked to some fertility miracles too.
The ceremony for her beatification will happen at the Cathedral of Alcala de Henares in Madrid at 5:30 PM local time. This is the first step toward sainthood.
Clare’s sister, Shauna Gill, shared that over 100 people traveled to Madrid for the event. It will also be livestreamed back in Derry at the Brunswick Moviebowl.
Shauna said the family is “very proud and excited.” During the ceremony, Clare will be declared a “servant of God.”
There are four steps to becoming a saint, and this is just the beginning. Clare’s life will be looked into before moving forward.
No one knows how long this process will take. It could be 10 years, 20 years, or even just two. It’s all a bit of a mystery for the family.
Around 1,000 people are expected to attend the ceremony. What a moment for Clare and her loved ones!
