Storm Éowyn is causing chaos in Scotland with record-breaking winds and damage
Aberdeen: Storm Éowyn is really making waves across Scotland. The winds are wild, and it’s causing a lot of trouble. Just the other day, gusts hit 114 mph on the west coast of Ireland, breaking records there.
In the UK, the highest wind speed was 96 mph at Brizlee Wood in Northumberland. Other places like Aberdaron and Killowen also felt the strong winds, but they didn’t quite reach the record levels.
Speaking of records, Fraserburgh in Aberdeenshire still holds the title for the strongest gust ever at 142 mph back in 1989. That’s a tough one to beat!
Back then, the winds were so fierce that they reached 92 knots in some areas. It was a crazy storm, and it’s still talked about today.
Now, while Storm Éowyn is fierce, it hasn’t quite matched those historic gusts yet. But it’s still causing quite a bit of disruption.
Traffic has been affected, with trees down and some vehicles blown over. In Dunfermline, nine people were hurt when a hospital roof was ripped off.
So, while we’re keeping an eye on Storm Éowyn, it’s clear it has a long way to go to break those old records. Stay safe out there!
