Omagh: Malachy O’Rourke is urging Tyrone fans to show their support. He believes that if the team plays well, the fans will come back to Healy Park.

Attendance has been low for home games lately. Sometimes, only a few thousand fans show up. Meanwhile, bigger counties like Mayo and Dublin attract over 10,000 fans.

Even after winning the All-Ireland in 2021, the trend didn’t change much. Recent losses at Healy Park have also affected the atmosphere.

O’Rourke mentioned that ticket prices might be a factor. At €20, it’s the same across the country, but it can still deter fans.

He knows that even if the team plays great football, it doesn’t guarantee a full crowd. O’Rourke said there are many reasons for this.

He pointed out that local club competitions are strong in Tyrone. Fans get to see plenty of football outside the county team.

O’Rourke also noted that the style of play has left some fans feeling disillusioned. Success can spark interest, but it’s not a sure thing.

He believes home games are crucial. “You want to have pride in your home record,” he said. “That’s why it’s vital we get good support.”

O’Rourke wants fans to see a team that gives their all. If they show real effort and togetherness, he thinks the supporters will respond positively.

In his first year with Monaghan, he achieved great success. Now, his focus is on getting the team to adapt to new rules and improve their performance.

He aims to build a disciplined team that works hard for each other. O’Rourke believes that if they can do this, they’ll earn enough points to stay in the division.

Ultimately, he wants to see continuous improvement, regardless of the results. That’s the key to building a strong team.
