Exciting news for music fans as plans for a Gary Moore statue in Belfast are moving forward, celebrating the legendary guitarist’s legacy.
Green Party Councillor Brian Smyth proposed the idea. He wants to find a spot on unused council land for the statue. The Belfast City Council is on board with this plan.
Gary Moore and Rory Gallagher were friends back in the day. They often played the same venues in Belfast. Moore, who passed away in 2011, was a rock legend. He grew up in East Belfast and was known for his incredible guitar skills.
He played with famous artists like BB King and Phil Lynott. His music career took off in the late 1970s. Hits like “Parisienne Walkways” made him a household name.
Smyth believes Moore is one of the greatest guitarists from Belfast. The campaign for the statue aims to celebrate his contributions to music and inspire future musicians.
The statue would be privately funded, similar to Gallagher’s. Moore’s family supports the project, and they hope to place it in the Cathedral Quarter. The council is checking for suitable land for this tribute.
