Sponsors selected artists for Clan Cancer Support’s BookBench Trail, starting in July in north-east Scotland.
Over twenty sponsors met at Clan House in Aberdeen last Thursday. They chose from seventy art submissions from local and national artists. Designs had Scottish themes, showing folklore, nature, and maritime scenes. Fiona Chance, an art consultant, helped by sharing what inspired the artists.
Fiona Fernie, who runs Clan, said sponsors picked their favorite art. Businesses chose sculptures and artists to support during the trail. Fernie was happy that companies had many designs to consider and could select art matching company values.
Fernie considers this an exciting step, as people will soon see the trail. She thanked sponsors and the artists for their time entering their art.
Attendees saw a completed sculpture, ‘Wonderful Wildflowers,’ made by Johanna Basford for free. The art had her style, using black, white, gold, and hidden creatures.
Basford said drawing on objects was fun and expressed her excitement for The BookBench Trail. Clan partners with Wild in Art, a group that makes city art events worldwide and has helped with art trails in Scotland before.
Fiona said the trail shows Clan’s dedication to helping people with cancer in the North-east, Moray, and islands. She hopes people know Clan’s help is there.
Fernie appreciates the sponsors’ help, as they supported past trails, showing local ties and Clan’s connection.
The art selection ends soon, and artists will start work in March. After the trail, they will auction art to raise money for Clan Cancer Support. Some sponsorships are still open, so contact them if you want to help.
